Military service members and their families are essential assets for our country and its citizens. Their eternal sacrifices for our nation enable us to live our lives safely every single day. It is our duty as citizens of the United States to ensure the survival of our armed forces and preserve their livelihood by giving them the assistance they need.

At We Are One Incorporation, CA, we have made it our mission to help military families battle the challenges life throws their way each day. Our aim is to help them regain a sense of normalcy, enabling them to lead a healthy and happy life, free from financial hardships as well as mental health issues.

As part of our military assistance program, we conducted a “Food Insecurity” Campaign in July and kicked off our “Military Clothing Needs” Campaign this month. Both campaigns were created with certain targets in mind. These campaigns helped us raise a significant amount of money and non-perishable food items for military families. Our Food Insecurity Campain’s success enabled us to conduct the first ever distribution drive.

We are delighted to share the details of our distribution drive for military families, which was held this month with our We Are One community. We thank our sponsors, volunteers, board members donors and supporters for making this happen.

An Overview of the Distribution Drive for Military Families

One of the goals of July’s “Food Insecurity” Campaign was to raise $3,000 for more than 2000 military service families residing in Southern California. Through the success of our campaign and help from our sponsors and volunteers, we were able to raise $1,500 worth of non-perishable food items and monetary donations.

On August 11, 2020, we donated Vons Gift cards to the Soldier and Family Readiness Center aboard the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base in Orange County. The Soldier and Family Readiness Center assists units with their Family Readiness Program. They provide assistance to service members, military families, veterans, and retirees with resources and referrals, outreached to families of Deployed National Guard Service Members.   The gift cards will help alleviate emergency financial burdens to include those created as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We also donated several boxes of non-perishable food items on August 13, 2020, to the Orange County Food Bank . We made this donation because many military families also seek assistance from local community resources, including Food Banks. Many military families even choose this option for anonymity to avoid the help-seeking stigma that can harm the service member’s career and the family’s military social network relationships.

Even though we were unable to meet the target of $3,000, we are optimistic because it is just the start of our mission! Our community keeps growing bigger every single day as more and more people are coming forward to help our heroes and donate to our military assistance program.  The combined efforts of our team, sponsors, and donors have proven to be successful!
